Astor Piazzolla – Libertango

Monolog(ue) – III

You’re sitting in front of a computer screen, surfing, visually browsing through the latest Lamborghini (prefer another manufacturer? you name it) models and craving for one like a little kid for a brand new toy. But, hey, you know how much one of these candies costs, right? Right. And, you’re just another middle-class working man, right? Probably. So, let’s not fool yourself : you know you’re never gonna make it – to get one of these you’d need 10 to 20 (or infinite) working years! So, it’s kinda out of the question. Hmm… Did I just let you down? I sympathize. I know you’re no different than any other human being and, what is true is that you don’t have to suppress your omnivorous nature by limiting your desires according to their feasibility. In any case, chances are that this bright and shiny new Lamborghini will never be yours – deal with it!

So, you keep sitting in front of a computer screen, constantly scratching your head and trying to figure out ways to make your dream come true. And one day, here it is : you get that e-mail stating that you won that first prize in some lottery you had taken part in (just as a hypothetical… lol). So, now there’s nothing missing from your life. You’ve just got what you’ve been always dreaming of : a great car to boast about. And, for some moments, you are really at the top of this world – yes, you feel so happy! But, hey, then you start thinking it over and over again. What would happen if someone steals your pretty baby? Hmm… that would make you crazy! So, what about getting a parking spot at some ultra-safe garage – or even build one yourself? Yes, I know – it costs money. Or, what if you get involved in an accident? The repairing costs would undoubtedly be extraordinary. So, what about securing it? Well, that costs money too. And what about gasoline? Yep, these monsters burn more gasoline for a few miles than a jumbo jet! Phew… So, does this mean even more to spend? Yep, you’re right. And, you, my dear working-class man, would you have a problem with that? Hmm… I bet you would.

So, you’re still sitting in front of a computer screen, wondering how your Lambo dream turned into a real nightmare. Yes, I know you WANTED it so badly! But wanting something is no excuse for having it, you know. And just imagine your pretty Lambo could think : do you think she would be happy staying all day long in a shabby garage, just because you cannot afford to drive her round the city? Hmmm… Suddenly too many problems come up by such an ideal scenario, huh? I’m suspecting you’ve already started envying your neighbour with that you-don’t-even-remember-the-brand cheap one; at least, he is able to move around – you are not. So, let me ask you : can you live up to the expectations of maintaining your ideal scenarios? Can you afford your dreams, even after they’ve turned into reality?

Iron Maiden – Fear of the dark

Fernando Pessoa – Quote-mania #96

Why is art beautiful? Because it’s useless. Why is life ugly? Because it’s all aims, objectives, intentions. All of its roads are for going from one point to another. If only we could have a road connecting a place no one ever leaves from to a place where no one goes! If only someone would devote his life to building a road from the middle of one field to the middle of another – a road that would be useful if extended at each end, but that would sublimely remain as only the middle stretch of a road!
